The Centre not only has some of Australia’s leading cardiovascular clinical specialists working in house, but also has access to The George Institute’s research specialists in a range of cardiovascular-related fields.

blankDr Patrick Groenestein MBBS PhD FRACP is a general cardiologist, and is an honorary associate cardiologist at RPA Hospital.  He is also a Senior Research Fellow at the The George Institute for International Health, affiliated with the University of Sydney, with a focus on developing innovative ways of providing primary and secondary preventative cardiovascular treatment, in particular using the global risk approach to Cardiovascular Disease assessment, and broad based treatment strategies.

blankDr Darren Lee BSc(Med) MBBS FAFRM(RACP) is a consultant physician in rehabilitation medicine. As a rehabilitation specialist he is involved in managing patients with disabilities due to various chronic diseases. His current interests include neurological rehabilitation and the prevention of complications arising from vascular disease and diabetes.  He has appointments at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney Private Hospital and the Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney.

anushka-patelAssociate Professor Anushka Patel MBBS SM PhD FRACP FCSANZ is a consultant cardiologist and an Associate Professor at the Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney. She is the Director of the Cardiovascular Division at The George Institute for International Health, with a research focus on improving strategies for prevention of cardiovascular disease. Associate Professor Patel completed her medical training at the University of Queensland and her specialty training in cardiology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where she currently has a part-time appointment in the Department of Cardiology. She also has a Master’s degree from Harvard University and a PhD from the University of Sydney.

d-sullivan1Clinical Associate Professor David Sullivan, MBBS, FRACP, FRCPA, Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Biochemistry, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, NSW has a long-term interest in lipid metabolism and lipid-lowering intervention. He conducted research at the MRC Lipoprotein Unit, Royal Postgraduate School of Medicine, Hammersmith Hospital, London and co-ordinated international clinical studies from the WHO reference lipid laboratory in Wageningen, The Netherlands. He has served on the management committees of the LIPID and FIELD Trials and the Clinical Issues Committee of the National Heart Foundation.

His current work at The George Clinic includes initiatives to detect and manage individuals and families at risk of premature CVD on an inherited basis.
